Pavel Hlava (1924 - 2003) was one of the pioneers of Czech contemporary glass work. Born in Semily, northern Bohemia he trained at the State Glass-Making School before graduating from the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague in 1948.
Primarily inspired by nature, his designs feature in many leading modern art museums around the world, including the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. The International Exhibition of Glass in Kanazawa, Japan also awards a prize in his name.
